Cowboys at Wildcats

The Chief on the radio just now - Benge didn’t pitch last night in the 12th because he didn’t feel like it. That is interesting - has anyone heard anything about him being injured?

That isn’t the mentality I want to see from my closer.

Really thought the runner on first should have scored on that Benge double. There were two outs he should have been on the run at the crack of the bat. Why not send him? I doubt they would have even thrown at him.

13 k’s against one of the worst pitching teams in the league. The most uninspired effort by a Cowboy baseball team I’ve seen in a long time.

Josh has a lot of work to do with this group. Today was awful, not even competitive.

Edit - removed the last sentence seemed harsh when I reread it.

What will he do though? He's a broken record. I'm sure they'll hit another hot streak because eventually it evens out but man this is bad. Not bad enough for him to think about doing anything differently, Im sure

Speaking of broken records.....typical postgame

He did add that with Meola and Wulfert out, the team is missing a toughness....

...but I would like to think that can be built into the mentality of a program and everyone picks up on it.

Maybe just use the weather excuse like his dad. Ya know, if the season started in March instead of February we probably win this series.

One of the biggest reasons why this team is underperforming is lack of team leadership. We all know about the coaching woes but it is the team too. Roc was by far the leader out there last year. Sure he was cocky at times but the kid was a gamer and the team and our fans loved him. With his departure, I sort of scratch my head this year because nothing like that exists at least from the outside looking in. I don’t see the same fire and passion to play the game to win. Talent will only get you so far.

Was wondering about team leadership during the game today as well.

If KSU gets the sweep today, they move ahead of us in the standings. We would be 25-15 and 10–8 and they would be 25–14 and 10–8 with a sweep over us. I’ve seen this movie play out before with Josh‘s teams. We’re going to end up being a two or three seed likely in the Fayetteville regional playing DBU in the first game and we will go two and Q like we usually do in the Holliday era.

It struck me today that Josh while definitely not equivalent to Boynton, is pretty darn close to the equivalent of Travis Ford. Travis would usually underachieve but squeak us into the NCAA or NIT tournament and promptly lose the first game. Travis had talent on his teams but never could coach them beyond mediocrity. Sound familiar?
