Who's Leaving, Who's Coming - Coaches Edition

I have read that the entire staff has been dismissed, but haven't seen anything further. True? Or False?

I realize too that it's still very early, but was wondering if anyone has the inside scoop as to the new Coaching staff? Or support staff? I know Morris' GM is in Stillwater and working, but anyone know anything further regarding staff?

Yes all final decisions have been made in the last 12,hours since North Texas lost.

Not all old staff has been dismissed, at least not yet. The O line coaches and Bowen seem to be still around. At what role, no one knows.

It sounds like it is mostly the guys with OSU ties or have been long timers that are hanging around and will have the opportunity to talk to Morris in the next few days. This includes Meacham, Bassett, Mitchell, some of the GAs like Tracin Wallace and JW Walsh, recruiting guys like Todd Bradford, Zach Allen and support staff like Beni Tonga and the strength staff. Bowen obviously the exception to that but has stayed around too.

Really hoping Bowen lands a spot on the staff. I think he could really be beneficial to Morris and the incoming guys. Hopefully Chad or someone would tell Morris the guy went from being an offensive analyst to a DC and by the end of the season turned around a D with a bunch of backups. Bowen has the familiarity with the current roster and can bring insights to who should stay or go, work ethic, etc. He’s also got a season of familiarity with B12 offenses so can give a head start on game planning.

That move does not instill confidence
Cassity is definitely a wildcard, but he’s young and hopefully a guy on the rise and will surprise. All the more reason the keep Bowen on as a mentor.

He did help the N Texas defense take a jump this year. They were 64th in total D (we were 114th). Their pass D was 10th in the country (we were 117th). Obviously based on the numbers, and seeing them last night, the weakness was rush defense, but some of that may just be personnel issues.

I think with the Eric Morris air raid offense, we are going to have to be realistic about the defense and expectations. This type of high scoring, fast paced offense is going to put the D on the field a lot. The N Texas offense was #1 in total offense and scoring, but 114th in time of possession so that D is going to suffer some. Honestly I’d take a 60ish ranked D next year right now if you offered it to me.

What happened last night?
My thought about midway is the second quarter was ‘this looks like a team that isn’t ready to play.’

Granted, both teams were in the same boat with their coach leaving but I think it’s just human nature that some will perform better than others under the circumstances.

I’m not reading too much into last night. Seemed like Tulane was a bad matchup for UNT and that happens.

We hired Morris to make these kind of calls. If Morris wants anyone from the staff and they want to work with him, that's great.

If they want to work for us, but Morris doesn't need/ want them...sorry- but that's coaching gentlemen.

We need to stand on business for a hot minute. We've been standing on nostalgia for the last decade and not being the best we can be; just the best we can be while staying comfortable.

We should be dominating the Big 12 now that UT and the school in Norman left; Let's stop goofing off and showing how long we can grab our own ankles. It's time to act like professionals.

LFG
