Top 5 new football coaches (if it happens)

1) Todd monken- experienced oc and is familar with OSU. Would he come here? Who knows but worth a call

2) Zac Robinson- long shot but make him
Say no.

3) GJ kinne- young coach that knows offense. Went to TU but is worth the gamble.

4) Jeff Traylor- Texas ties and experienced

5) Ben Arbuckle- up and coming OC at ou.

I think any one of these would be worth a shot

Zac Robinson seems like an awesome choice in the surface, but college football is ran completely different for the worse. You need to be a high school recruiter, a transfer scout, a fundraiser, and a deal maker on top of normal head coach duties an nfl coach would have. Not to mention the disparity of resources is far worse and only getting worse as the years go by. Why on earth would you go into college football from the nfl if money is equal? We need to look at folks who are already in the maelstrom of college football that will look at us as a stepping stone to big league college football. Honestly that’s where we’re at, and that’s ok if we know how to plan around that fact (shorter contracts, higher buyouts, more NIL fundraising, and less athletic budget fundraising).

+1

Chad did a nice job with Coach Lutz. Maybe hiring is one of Chad's strengths as an administrator.

In today's landscape, Dez would probably be better than Zac. No one outside of Stillwater and Atlanta (maybe some diehards in LA) knows who Zac is.

In no way am I advocating for Dez, I'm just saying Zac isn't famous enough where kids would pass up more money to come play for him.

Now if we have some mega donor who hates Gundy and loves Zac, then by all means. But I don't think that guy exists.

I don’t know about that. UCLA tried a similar thing with Foster and that is not going well at all. At least Zac knows offense and has a ton of
play calling experience. I get what you are saying about recruiting and name recognition but that’s pretty common when you hire assistants. Nobody knew Arbuckle until late last year. Saw today that he was just a HS assistant less than 5 years ago.

If a change is made, I expect Zac Robinson to be the guy. He's beloved by our fanbase, he has an excellent resume, and he might stick around long term if he has a high level of success. He'll likely be an NFL head coach in the coming years if we don't hire him now.

My main concerns are that he's never coached at the college level, and he's never been a head coach at any level. He's got a lot of potential, though. He reminds me a lot of Gundy when we hired him.

Arbuckle's track record with QBs is rather impressive

i think some of you underestimate the difference in NFL & college coaching. I could be wrong but I think it’s a fairly short list of guys moving from NFL coordinator positions to college.

We will see if Lutz pans out. I am a big fan of his, but there is not enough data to show if he was a good hire.
He is laying the foundation brick by brick. As far as I know, he hasn't set a foot wrong. A class professional. I hope we see big results this year.

If we paid him Mike Gundy’s salary he might

Maybe, it's certainly possible, but I doubt it. Gundy makes 6.75 million and the average SEC head coach makes 8.1 million, big 10 average isnt much below that, and recruiting is a lot easier in those conferences. If his offense continues playing at this level he could easily wait until the first 8 million/yr offer at the right sec or big 10 school comes along. Hope he stays 2 years
