'Working hard for Russia': MTG mocked over proposing US reps backing Ukraine aid fight in the war​

US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is working hard against passing the bipartisan foreign aid package in support of Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression — mainly by calling for Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) ouster if he works with Democrats to pass it.

Capitol Hill reporter Juliegrace Brufke shared via x (formerly Twitter) Wednesday night, "Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced an amendment requiring members to 'conscript in the Ukrainian military' if they vote for the Ukraine supplemental bill."



The amendment titled "Amendment to Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024," reads: "Any Member of Congress who votes in favor of this Act shall be required to conscript in the Ukrainian military."\


Still, the amendment that stands out most to lawmakers and legal experts is the proposal requiring House members who support aiding Ukraine in its fight against President Vladimir Putin and Russia to enlist in the Ukrainian military.


Former US Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) tweeted, "'WHY DONT U GO FIGHT THEN!' is not just a bad faith attack, but a royally dumb argument. Devoid of logic.Reasonable to argue that supporting Ukraine is not in our interest. But Ukrainians aren’t asking us to fight.They are already fighting. Thats why they are asking for aid!"

World Liberty Congress co-founder Garry Kasparov said, "We all know she’s an idiot spouting Kremlin propaganda, but the irony here is that the only way US troops will have to see action over Ukraine is if we let Ukraine lose and Russia attacks NATO. Of course I’m sure she’d be for abandoning NATO too, as would Trump."

US Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI) wrote, "America deserves so much better than MTG and House Republicans' political theater. What a mockery of this very serious moment. We're going to take away their gavels in November."


Center for European Policy Analysis senior fellow Olga Lautman added, "She is really working hard for Russia. Unbelievable she is in Congress after openly supporting our adversary and assisting in an insurrection."

Greene, herself, replied to Brufke's tweet, writing, "I mean if you want to fund the war, why don’t you go fight in it. Show your support for Ukraine."

Then, the anti-Donald Trump Lincoln Project responded to the Georgia congresswoman, tweeting, "@RepMTG If you want to help Russia so much, why don’t you go fight in their military. Show your support for Putin."

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) trolled Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) with a pair of amendments that highlight the Georgia Republican’s frequent embrace of pro-Russia misinformation and her opposition to foreign aid.

The first amendment calls for Greene to be appointed “Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy to the United States Congress.”
The amendment says Greene has “repeatedly attempted to block aid to Ukraine, empowering Vladimir Putin’s unlawful violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity,” and that she “has reposted information from the Strategic Culture Foundation, a Russian based disinformation and propaganda channel that has been sanctioned by [the Office of Foreign Assets Control].”

The second amendment renames Greene’s office in the Cannon House Office Building as the “Neville Chamberlain Room” — a reference to the World War II-era British prime minister who pursued a failed policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany in the hope of avoiding a larger war.

In an interview on “CNN News Central” on Thursday, Moskowitz announced the first amendment naming Greene as Putin’s envoy and said, “That way … we can just make it official, quite frankly.”

Democrats for years have warned about Russian influence in the Republican Party under Donald Trump. But now even some prominent GOP members of Congress are sounding the alarm.

“I think Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately, and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base,” Representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Puck’s Julia Ioffe last week. Representative Mike Turner, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, went further, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper a few days later, “We see directly coming from Russia attempts to mask communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor.”

Which Republicans might they be referring to? Representative Ken Buck didn’t hesitate to point a finger at Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, saying on Monday, “Moscow Marjorie is focused now on this Ukraine issue and getting her talking points from the Kremlin and making sure that she is popular and she is getting a lot of coverage.”

They’re saying aloud what they once whispered behind closed doors. Back in 2016, when he was a Republican congressman but not yet House speaker, Kevin McCarthy said in a private meeting with GOP leaders, “There’s two people, I think, Putin pays: [Representative Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump … swear to God.” (Rohrabacher, once dubbed “Putin’s favorite congressman,” lost his seat in 2018.)
McCarthy, confronted with the leaked audio in 2017, claimed it was a joke. But anyone paying attention to how Russian intelligence services run influence operations—which I do, as a former CIA officer—knows it is anything but. It raises a legitimate, and deadly serious, question: Have Russian operatives paid any Republican officials?
