CFN.com Preview: UT-Martin vs. Oklahoma State

If we win by less than three scores, we're cooked - if Gundy does that keep the cards up the sleeve horseshit- it's over.

This is no longer the time to fuck around. Texas and the others from Norman are gone. EVERY YEAR this conference is wide open, Get the the new personnel used to succeeding and score some damn points.

either that or Gundy can spend more time rattlesnake hunting in 2026.

Why wait until 2026?

I see what you’re saying. But we need to come out and be able to be “vanilla”, work on things we need to work on and still win comfortably. We don’t need to come out with a purpose of winning by X amount of points. Theres so much newness to this team from players to schemes, etc. We need to iron things out, find out who can be role players and help us, along with establishing our dudes. That’s the focus IMO.

Whether we win by 3 or 300 we won't know anything more about how good we are. We're going to play about 80 guys on Thursday and run vanilla schemes all game. It will probably resemble a spring game more than anything.

Yeah, if you are expecting double-reverse passes, complicated blitzes, fake punts, onside kicks and even a triple-lindy, you will be sorely disappointed late Thursday night. My ideal scenario is that we just line up and run over these guys but I am reasonably sure that is not going either. New players plus new coaches are not conducive to that type of play.

If we only beat UT Martin by 3, we have major concerns. I’ll always take a W but that won’t be a good sign. I do agree though, if we blow them out we still won’t know much about the team.

In 2021 we beat Missouri St by 7 and finished in the top 10. It really doesn't matter. That said, I hope we win by 70.

I’m not expecting the Annexation of Puerto Rico.

I’m expecting putting some points in the board and keep right food on the gas not the breaks. You’ve got a lot of new personalities and in this era- guys want stats, involvement and scores.

If we’re not even TRYING to run them out the stadium, we are cooked in our mindset.

The Big 12 is open for the taking. I feel good about the pedigree of the staff.

I’ve thrown as many passes in BCS live action as both of our QBs and they need to get some Wins under their belt to feel confident against Big 12 competition.

So in other words, you won't be happy with any pf the possible results?
Interesting take..

I’ll be happy with a win. If we struggle, I think that’s concerning. If we blow them out, we still won’t know much about the team overall but it’ll be a good sign. Honestly, I could say the same with Oregon the following week. If we were to get rolled by them, I still think we don’t know a ton about the team overall and still have a chance at a good season. IMO, I think we’ll know what this team is by the Arizona game.

Is that enough clarity for you?

Normally I wouldn't mind keeping it vanilla, but this game is basically a job interview for the starting QB. You need to run enough of your offense to get a good feel for who you are going to name starter, which needs to be done on Friday.
