Oklahoma continues to go backward...

Just what Oklahoma needs, to replace another moderate republican with an idiot abortion "abolistionist" (ie clueless at basic science and medicine) who hates women. And LOL at "giving power to the people" by primarily advocating for government to arrest women and take away first admendment rights. Dumb electing dumber.

Members of the state Senate welcomed a new member Wednesday.

Republican Dusty Deevers, of Elgin, was sworn in to represent Senate District 32 in Comanche County.

A Christian pastor and businessman, Deevers won a special election last week to fill a vacancy in the Senate. Deevers is a political novice who has never held elected office before.

Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice M. John Kane IV administered the oath of office on the floor of the Senate chamber as Deevers’ family and a bipartisan group of senators watched.

The Senate gallery was full of Deevers’s supporters, including some who wore stickers advocating for abortion to be abolished.

Deevers is a self-proclaimed abortion abolitionist. He has vowed to support legislation introduced by Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, that would allow prosecutors to charge women who undergo an abortion.

Although Oklahoma bans most abortions, state law doesn’t allow charges to be brought against women who seek the procedure. There appears to be little appetite among anti-abortion Republicans to pass legislation that would punish women who seek an abortion.

“Here in Oklahoma, it’s time to abolish abortion, abolish pornography, abolish the state income tax and give power and equal representation back to the people,” Deevers tweeted after winning his race.

Deevers succeeds former Sen. John Michael Montgomery, a moderate Republican, who resigned earlier this year to lead the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce.

I received this today. The Oklahoma legislature, while claiming to be anti-tax, is adding yet another tax. Now, I am sure that you are thinking that it is only fair given that people who drive gas cars pay a gasoline tax. But, EVs are already charged a $110 electric vehicle tax at registration each year. Being that I live in the city and mostly ride a bike to work or work from home, I do not drive many miles. So, I calculated my rate prior to this additional tax and it is already more than triple the gas tax. Prior to this additional tax you would have to drive a 25 mpg car 15000 miles to equal the EV fee. Now, EVs will mostly be paying higher rates to use the roads unless they are very high usage vehicles.

retiring in about 5 years (fingers crossed) and I will happily say adios to this 'way too red' state...by that time, we will have women in prison for getting an abortion; we will be reading 'Mein Kampf', the Bible, and 'My Way' by ryan walters in schools; you can/will be arrested if found to be gay Or not carrying a gun; you will be ticketed and fined for driving an EV; etc...

lol. I hear Palestine is nice.

What's the matter Gogetumpoke? Do you strongly support Oklahoma electing more religious right Christian extremists? But I wonder if these extremists, such as Deevers, have the Ten Commandments posted in the Sunday school rooms of their churches. If not, why make the state of Oklahoma accountable for doing that in every public-school classroom? I didn't look in the Sunday school rooms in the Stillwater church that Walters spoke at. Anyway, the walls I did see of the church were bare of anything except for a large cross on the back of the stage. Would extremists want to require a cross be on the wall of every public school?

I know it’s hard for simpleton’s like you to fathom, but there are plenty of states in the ole USA that are not nearly as backward as okieland…
I’ll be praying that you can survive the next 5 years in this horrible wretched place. I still think you should take your GBTQ show on the road to the Middle East that you are so fond of.

It’s called ‘compassion’….you should try it sometime…

Compassion for what? It would be compassion if what you listed was true and not just made up by you. Sorry, but if you are going to complain of non-existent items…silliness is a proper reply. Oklahoma is not arresting people for being gay, ticketing people for driving an EV, or requiring Mein Kampf in schools.

In an earlier thread we had someone make a silly claim that political parties were not allowing someone into the country due to their religion and controlling who a person can date. Those aren’t happening either.

Compassion comment was in response to last sentence…as far as my initial post on this thread; it’s called ‘sarcasm’…sorry you struggle keeping up…

I hoped it was sarcasm.

But if you are going to complain about “compassion”…while linking it to a comment about your previous stated support of Palestine and Hamas… you might remember some of your negative posts about Israel. That is a land of real struggle and not made up sarcastic concerns. The people of Israel could use compassion.

Talk about making up stuff. Who said anything about ticketing drivers of EVs? What I mentioned was double taxation of EVs.

Who said? PF5.
Read PF5’s reply: “you will be ticketed and fined for driving an EV
Ah, you changed his five years in the future conjecture to the present tense with "is" for your straw man.

Ok, got it.

But, 5 years ago would anyone think that states would right now be able to be passing laws to make it illegal to Uber someone across a state line because once there the person got an abortion?
