Good info. $2.7 mil per year average for five year contract. I hate being so pessimistic, but the thing I was most interested in was the buyout. As of April 1st each year, these are the numbers:

2025: $6.75 million

2026: $5.14 million

2027: $2.73 million

2028: $1.26 million

Overall not terrible. I don't see us letting him go before the years in and at that point it is under $3 mil. The annual number feels a LITTLE high to me, but I'm probably being too sensitive.

Why are you asking about getting rid of him before he has coached a game for us? I would worry more about someone poaching him from us.

Because we've been royally screwed by being locked into bad contacts twice in the last 3 coaches.

Why are you concerned about someone poaching a coach who is unproven at this level of basketball?

Why are you concerned about someone poaching a coach who is unproven at this level of basketball? Because there are a lot of schools with more money and he has been successful. If he continues to be successful then a richer school will probably want him. If he hadn’t been successful I wouldn’t expect him to be poached going forward.
Emboldened.

The last two buyout issues were after extensions. I’d like to say we should wait for more than a tourney appearance before extending, but if we make a tourney and someone comes for him, it’s gonna be a real hard choice to pay or let him go. Let’s see what happens first.

I hope we're close enough to "home" that, at his age (51), he might relish the idea of staying at a place where he can make plenty of money for his lifestyle and finish his career without having to uproot his family again.

But I REALLY, REALLY hope it is an issue that needs to be addressed, and soon!

I'd prefer massive success, a full GIA that changes the coffers and we just keep paying him over time while this becomes the university he's known for.

I'm really hoping I win the lottery and can help NIL our way to extended postseason success.
Cheers Applause GIF
